About him
Shy Northern Irishman left Belfast at 18 to come to university in Southampton.After graduation, immediately pursued a professional qualification. 20+ years of married life and 2 kids followed. It took me several years to come to terms with the effects of a stroke that stopped my career in its prime and forced me to re-evaluate life. I'm lucky to have an understanding employer. Despite the challenges of having only one working arm and a dodgy leg, I have managed to get fit again by going to the gym, not for my vanity, but to get my hearts and lungs as healthy as I can - I push myself quite hard. Also I've discovered the fantastic game of bowls - great for fitness, very sociable and great fun all round for men and women. For mental health, I do bits of voluntary work and could do more. I have dabbled in Open University courses over recent years and often wonder now how I ever had time to work! I also set up an investment club with a couple of friends, which gives us an excuse to meet up every few months to have a beer and a meal and discuss what to invest in next. Also a cabal of elderly ladies have taught me to play bridge, always followed by lashings of hot tea.
I have 2 kids in their twenties both working and in their own homes. I love seeing them.
I love eating food and would take great pleasure in having a dining companion.
I'm not sure what to expect from this exercise but feel I'm ready to move on.
I do walk with a stick, but might be able to get rid of that if I had a hand to hold. I've flown by myself to Canada a few times, where I have a sister, and taken the occasional cruise. There are lots of places in England, Wales and Scotland I'd like to visit and am reluctant to do so without a companion.
Overall, I'm a very lucky man, fortunate enough to live in a great city and keep myself fairly busy. All photos from 2019. Have lost weight since the photo in Mottisfont gardens (National Trust place).

About his ideal match
I'd love to meet someone with whom I can have coffee and dine out. A bucket list of UK locations for day trips/short breaks would be great with a companion. It is not the travel that appeals but rather the chance to meet a lady that I can admire, respect, cherish, fancy(!), and learn to love.
While I do feel "chemistry" counts for a lot, I also feel it may take time to get to know someone.
Age is not important to me - it is what you are like as a person that will seal it for us. If you like to smile and laugh a lot that would be a real plus for me and I'd readily reciprocate.
If we were to meet and end up as friends I'd be delighted. Anything more would be a real blessing. I had never heard of a "player" until I signed up here but I'd prefer someone with some old-fashioned values who'd like to get to know me.
