About him
I have lived in London for more than twenty-five years, although I grew up in Aachen: Charlemagne’s city and, according to some, the Wimbledon of equestrian sport. I don’t ride, but a large and highly spirited young dog is a regular part of my life.
After many years in senior leadership roles across Europe, my life today is quieter and more deliberate. I write essays and articles, have a book or two waiting to be written, and mentor people whose questions interest me. I still work, not from habit or ambition, but because I remain curious and enjoy being useful.
I am 72. The number is accurate; some of the assumptions commonly attached to it are not. I live independently, think clearly, make plans and remain actively interested in whatever comes next. Slippers, daytime television and an impending care plan have not yet made it onto the agenda.
I read widely. Music matters to me, genuinely; the smaller the venue, the better. I’m a morning person who prefers a good kitchen to a fashionable restaurant, although an occasional evening at the theatre or a concert can still be something special.
I have travelled widely and lived an international life. These days, however, travel needs a reason: a place that draws me, someone I want to see, or the simple pleasure of taking the car across to the continent. I have no bucket list, no countries to collect, and no wish to spend what other people might call retirement queuing at airports merely to prove that I am making the most of life.
I’m drawn to conversation that goes beyond the surface, and to shared silence that doesn’t need explaining. My life is already full, but not closed.

I am drawn to women who are comfortable standing on their own feet: emotionally, practically and financially. Age matters less to me than maturity, steadiness, curiosity and the ability to relate without role-playing or dependency.
I can easily imagine being with a woman who is still actively engaged in her professional life, just as I am. Closeness, to me, does not require two people to follow the same timetable or spend every waking hour together. Each should have interests, responsibilities and space of their own, and genuinely look forward to coming back together.
A quiet day at home can be as satisfying as a journey; an occasional adventure means more to me than constant activity. Warmth, intelligence, humour and genuine affection matter.
